london Olympics Start Preparing now, says Usha

Kozhikode, Aug. 25: India should be proud of the unprecedented threemedal haul in Beijing Olympics but should do more by way of tapping talent at the junior level to perform even better in 2012 London Olympics, feels former sprint queen PT usha.
“While all of us are quite pround to see our contingent returning with three medals, I do not think that we can feel complacent about out performance,” she told.
“We have to start working on a war footing if we have to give a better performance in London and that is possible provided the right application is there and we tap young talent,” she said.
She said India has abundant junior talent in many disciplines including athletics but it was for the authiruties concerned to spot them soon if India should put up a better show in London.
“when a country like Jamaica with a population of 28 lakh can come out with such a good show, why not India,” she asked.
Asked about Tintu Luka, a product of her own athletics school here, Usha said the youngster would prove her mettle at the next Olympics,
The 18-year-old Luka is being prepared by Usha for for the 800m race at the London Game after participatin in the World junior athletics event.
On Usain Bolt, the ‘Payyoli Express’ said he proved what one can do if trained properly school level and particularly concentrates on athletics,” she said.
Applauding China’s 100medal achievement, the former ace sprinter who missed an Olympic bronze by a whisker in 1984 in Los Angeles, said China has been working for this for the past 18 years ever since it hosted the Asiad in Beijing.

Vijayakanth in new MGR role

Aug. 25: DMK leader Vijayakanth will donanother role of MGR picking up an eligble couple from a Chennai slum and sponsoring their marriage. MGR had sponsored a similar wedding in the same slum decades ago. The actor-politician is shifting to higher gear in emulating MGR for political gains.
This slum in Shok Nagar where the wedding is to happen on Wednesday is the area where around 150 dalit families live under thatched roofs. And bridegroom Shiva, 29, an auto-driver and an ardent fan of both MGR and Vijayakanth, is a resident of this slum. “Our captain is the only political leader after MGR to came to this slum to sponsor a cadre’s marriage, and that too at the dridegroom’s residence itself,” says DMDK’s South Chennai district secretary Malar Mannan.
Locals recall that MGR had visited the same slum and sponsored a similar wedding in 1973 aftre launching his AIADMK. “Aftre MGR our Captain is the only leader who is addresssings the problems of dalits. Ours is the only party where there is no separate wing for SC/STs and minorities, in our party,” says Malar Mannan. Earlier, the DMDK cadres were in a jubilant mood celebrating their leader’s 56th birthday organizing variouswelfare programmes throughout the state. Vijayakanth who is in Malaysia for a song shoot for hisongoing film Engal Aasaan is returning on Wednesday.

Attack Mendis to put pressure: MSD

Aug.25: Having pulled off a gamble by playing three seamers and one spinner, Mahendra Singh Dhoni will be inclined to think that he had the numbers right. Usually teams go in with two specialist spinners in these sub-continental conditions but given the way the wicket behaved in the third game, Dhoni, it appears, has out-thought counterpart Mahela Jeyawardena. Follwing the victory in the third game, Dhoni said that a fifth bowler was luxury in such conditions.
The Indian skipper believes that playing an extra batsman is more advantageous as opposed to a fifth bowler as he feels a part-timer can be useful in these conditions. “Sinee these wickets are slow, the part timers can be effective. But we don’t have part-timers like Virender (Sehwag) or Sachin (Tendulkar) who can really turn the ball and stay consistent. So you have to see who’s bowling well, and continue with him,” said Dhoni. For the first time in the series and going right back to the Test matches, the Indians, it appeared, had managed to tackle their nemesis, Ajantha Mendis. Though one game doesn’t certainly make them masters, the confidence can work wonders.
‘If he (Mendis) bowls a bad ball you need to punish him. Only then will pressure build on him. If you keep defending he’ll stay on top. Till now he wasn’t under pressure so he wasn’t under pressure so he was bowing at his best,” said the India skipper.

Women Are Eyeing Udita

After her heart-racing performance in Aksar and Zeher, it’s normal for Udita to get a lot mails from male admires. However, the bulk of her fan mail comes from female fans. “Female fans often compliment me on my lips and body with explicit details. I am not sure if I should freak out or should she accept them as genuine compliments. After all it’s not easy for one women to compliment the other,” says Udita
Udita, who made a sensational debut in Paap, was appreciated for her perfect figure. Gradually she put on so much weight and as a result, she ended up losing a lot of projects. “After Paap was released, everyone said I was very thin and needed to put on weight. I tried many different things to gain weight and in the process I became fat. Now I am taking care of my diet. I watch what I eat especially with all the compliments coming my way,” says Udita.

Chiranjeevi all set to take new role

Aug 25: Telugu superstar Chiranjeevi arrived here Monday night for the much hyped launch of his political party at a public meeting in this temple town on Tuesday. All the ingredients of a celluloid blockbuster are thrown in, including the element of suspense over the name of the party and its flag.
The 53-year-old actor, who announced his plans to take a plunge into politics at a press conference in Hyderabad last week, will announce his party’s name and programmers at the ‘mega show’ where he is also expected to wave his flag.

Elaborating on the huge canvas of preparations, they said 18 special rains, about 1500 buses, thousands of cars, vans, and trucks would be engaged to bring Chiranjeevi’s fans and potential party members from all parts of Andhra Pradesh to the Rajiv Nagar venue. In addition, ten special trains from Hyderabad would take the media persons an participants, who would include several film personalities and some NRIs they arrived from the US last week to campaign for the star’s party.
With the question doing the rounds in political and media circles whether Chiranjeevi would be able to recreate the magic of the late Telugu hero N.T.Rama Rao, who had stormed to power within nine months of floating his Telugu Desam party in 1983, the Tuesday launch is being kennly watched not only in Andhra Pradesh but else where too.
Over 126-acre ground has been cleared of bushes at the venue, where an AICC Plenary was held in 1992 during P V Narasimha Rao’s regime.
All the hotels and marriage halls in the temple town and the surrounding towns of Puttur, Sri Kalahasti and Chittor have already been occupied by politicians and the actor’s fans.
A TTD official has expressed fear that the shrine, already experiencing heavy rush of pilgrims due to marriages happening during this auspicious ‘Sravana Masam’, could choke on the influx of the Chiranjeevi army.
“It would be nice if the people attending the rally avoid visiting the shrine. Other wise, it might take three days for the pilgrims to have darshan, at 60,000-80,000 people a day,” he said

The legend of daksha

Hindu myths and legends tell us that Daksha was the son of Aditi and Brahma father of 15 different human female forms before he make it 16. His eldest and dearest daughter Shakti, was given in marriage to the God of fire. The rest 13 were to be the starting point for human beings or Manushya Jathi.

Shakti married Shive against the will of her father who hated shiva. From that day on, Daksha estranged himself from his daughter. Matters came to a head when Shakti heard of a huge sacrificial ritual hosted by Dajsha, to which neither she nor her husband had been invited. Assuming that since she was the daughter of the king and would still gain entry, Shakti attended the ritual, but was treated with disdain. Her husband was openly insulted, and hearing the insults thrown at Shiva, Shakti committed suicide, unable to bear the any longer.

Shiva was so furious at this that he pulled out a lock of his hair and threw it on the ground. From it arose Virabhadra and Rudrakali. They were ferocious demons and stormend the ceremony, killing Daksha and his guests.

When he was begged for mercy, shive restored Daksha’s life, but replaced his head with that of a goat. It is that from that day onwards, Daksha most faithful disciples.

Shakti was later reincarnated as Parvati, and this time she never left Shiva’s side again.

Jaya counters Captain’s move

It was AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa’s second visit in a fortnight to the party headquarters herre. She met the media on August 13 at the headuarters two days after her return from Kodanad estate.

She came to the party office on Monday and distributed assistance to 46 labourers belonging to Anna Trade Union, one of her party wings, and inducted 45 (4 and 5 adds to her lucky number 9) persons from different parties into her party.

In what seems to be an attempt to offset the celebrations of birthday of her new rival and DMDK chief Vijayakanth, she visited the party office amidst a rousing reception from the party trade union and other wings.

The cadres installed hoardings welcoming their chief to the party office from Music Academy up to Lloyds road where the party office is situated.

An orchestra was playing popular film songs of MGR in front of the party HQ.

AIADMK chief’s choice of the day to distribute assistance of Rs.25,000 each to the 46 impoverished trade unionists when the DMDK has organised annadhanam and other freebie programmes to the poor in the city, has give rise to speculations that she wants to counter the star politician.

DMDK’s outright attempts to project their leader as the political heir of MGR has really stirred Ms Jayalalithaa into action to prove that she still stands by the poor.

AIADMK supremo may also have wanted make a statement on Mr Vijayakanth’s birthday.

At least four DMDK functionaries from different parts of the state were among the 45 people who joined the AIADMK in the presence of Ms Jayalalithaa.

Baton blunders wreck US night

Beijing, Aug.21: The USSS men and woman both dropped the baton in the Olympic 4x100-metre relays on Thursday and failed to advance out of the first round in the Beijing Olympics.
First, men’s anchor Tyson Gay, part of the American team that won the relay at last year’s world championships, did not get the baton from third-leg runner Darvis Patton. About 25 minutes later, women’s anchor Lauryn Williams fumbled her exchange with Torri Edwards, their baton dropping to the ground.
At the 2004 Olympics, Williams started running too early and missed a hand-off from Marion Jones in the final.
“If people want to assess the blame to me, that’s Ok. I mean, I can take whatever it is that people are going to dish out,” Williams said. “We had good chemistry. The had was back there, She was there. I don’t know what happened.” Unlike the men, who stopped racing, Williams scrambled back on the wet track to pick up the baton and finish the lap. The United States was the last of eight teams in the heat to cross the finish, in a time of 48.92. Jamaica, continuing their strong showing at the Bird’s Nest, won the other preliminary women’s heat in 42.24.
Earlier, when Gay reached back for his exchange, he never got a grasp of the baton, which tumbled.
Afterward, Gay and Patton both took the blame. Gay, who also failed to reach the final in the individual 100, said he felt the baton and “then I went to grab it and there was nothing. It’s been happening to me this Olympics.”
He said he never before dropped a baton in a relay and that he and Patton practiced all week without missing a handoff. “That’s Tyson Gay. He’s a humble guy,” Patton said. “But I know it’s my job to get the guy the baton, and I didn’t do that.”
Trinidad and Tobago won the heat. Only four of the eight teams managed to make it all the way around the one lap race without a problem in a light rain.
Jamaica won the second heat, with former 100m-world record-holder Asafa Powell running the anchor leg. Usain Bolt, who broke the world records in the 100 and 200 meters while winning those gold medals, was given the night off but is expected to run in Friday’s relay final.

Pondy CM in limbo?

Aug.21: The political crisis in Puducherry has deepened with the Congress leaders opposed to chief minister N.Rangasamy moving the party MLAs and three independent MLAs to an undisclosed location following fears of horse-trading. The beleagured chief minister accused of working only for his Thattanchavady constituency, is facing a revolt with his party men demanding his removal. The rebels fear that he may try to win over the MLAs to his side.
Sources said the MLAs would be paraded before the party high command during the Congress legislature party meeting on Monday to strengthen their demand for sucking Rangasamy from the chief minister’s post.
The rebels are said to be pressuring Rangasamy to step down ahead of the CLP meeting. A ‘Nammasivayam congress MILA from Ozhukarai and son in law of the chief minister’s elder brother has joined the rebel camp. This has come as a severe blow to Rangasamy, who was confident that Namasivayam would come to his rescue. Representatives of Rangasamy tried to meet Namasivayam at a five star hotel in Chennai to seek his support. But they returned empty handed as the rebel camp had moved him to another location

Tough call for Poor Bhansali

Rani Mukherjee, who has no love lost for erstwhile friend Aishwarya, was heard taking potshots at her openly in the company of Sanjay Leela Bhansali recently. The reclusive director was meeting his Black lady to discuss the script of his next production Chenab Gandhi top lining Harman Baweja and Vidya Balan. The grapevine is that Bhansali wants Rani to play a cameo a la Saawariya in the movie and was trying to cajole her for the same. But she didn’t think the cameo would do her presence any justice. Rani’s supposedly told Bhansali that she would play the main lead in the film if he’d let go of Vidya and cast her instead.

Ash-Abhi to move out

This is something that you might not read on Mr.Bachchan’s blog but close sources vouch that after the family returns from their world tour, a split is eminent. Nothing acrimonious there though, as Abhishek with wife Aishwarya will finally move out of the Bachchan bungalow Jalsa and move to their newly done up sea facing bungalow. In fact the bungalow was ready before the stars left on their foreign sojourn but Ash believed that they should move into their new house only on their return. Mamma Jaya Bachchan has handpicked the new staff for her son’s new pad and everything is finally in place. As soon the Bachchans land from the tour they will be doing their regular round of Pujas and temples visits for sure, for the couple’s new beginning.
What we are worried about is the fact that if there is a housewarming party, who will be attending IT?

Through whiskey tinted glasses

Why? Because a survey said that consuming alcohol actually made one perceive the not so good-looking as beautiful
The next time you think the woman (or man) standing next to you could just be the single most attractive looking person in the bar, gulp down gallons and gallons of water. Alcohol distorts a person’s vision, making unattractive people appear beautiful, or at least passably attractive.
When it comes to alcohol, some say the more the merrier. However, that just leads to more mistakes. “I’m too shy around woman and having a couple of beers makes me feel like I own the room. Well, I don’t mean to sound so creepy, but yes, every girl in the room starts looking hotter and within my reach,” says 26-year-old software engineer Tarun Bhadari. While experts believe that alcohol stimulates the brain that plays an important role in attraction, is it really a different level of confidence that you gain? “Alcohol is a central nervous system depressant. It affects your higher functioning. While alcohol does lead to ‘disinheriting’, and a certain amount can help you relax, crossing the threshold of being in a normal state would make you lose control so much so that you don’t really care who is in front of you. With lack of better judgment, you wind up doing things inappropriate because while you may think you are aroused, your sexual desire and libido completely dies out,” says consultant psychiatrist Dr Hozefa Bhinderwala.
Sexual inhibitions or not, alcohol is another reason why you could easily fall under someone else’s false impression or give out one. “The uninhibited approach makes you feel a lot more euphoric. While you lose control, more than your true nature, you perceive things differently and this could just lead to morning blues for a long time,” says sexologist Dr Rajan Bhonsle.
“Rather than making the opposite (or same) sex look pretty, alcohol lowers your inhibitions. It’s easier to submit to something you want at the time. That’s why you see people are their honest best when they’ve had too much to drink,” says Meenakshi Dalal who’s regular at many bars in the city. While we explore the potential of losing our higher thinking, rationality and of course our physical balance, alcohol might just be on its way to becoming the true little regret pill. Your call “while you may think you are aroused, your sexual desire and libido completely dies out”

Suhasini to enter politics?

Rumours are floating that actress Suhasini Maniratnam will join politics although she denies them. While her son Nandan Maniratnam seems to be treading the path of a recent CPM national meet, rumours are abuzz that Suhasini will soon make her debut in politics. According to the sources, the actress has agreed to join Telugu film star’s Chiranjeevi’s political party, all set to emerge on August 26 in a public meeting at Tirupati.

“Chiranjeevi is keen on Suhasini joining his party and also agreed to give her the post of women’s wing leader. Talks are on and we hope they will be positive,” revealed a source in Hyderabad.

Though a Tamilian by birth, Suhasini is well-versed in Telugug and has acted in many fims with Chiranjeevi. Her fluency in Telugu made her close to Andhrites and she also hosts Bommarilu, a game show on Maa TV, a private channel in which Chiranjeevi is also one of the partners. Her show is a big hit with Telugu viewers and she frequently shuttles between Chennai and Hyderabad for shooting the show and also other Telugu film projects.

“When it comes to television shows, it was again Chiranjeevi who requested her to host Bommarillu.

Andhrites call her Telugu Inti Adapaduchu (daughter of a Telugu family). She enjoys a special recognition in Andhra Pradesh,” says a source.

HC tells Ambani bros to seek mother’s help

The Mumbai High Court on Thursday suggested that Anil and Mukesh Ambani approach their mother Kokilaben to resolve the dispute over the agreement for supplying gas from the Krishna-Godavari basic.

A division bench of Justices J.N. Patel and K.K. Tated was hearing a case regarding the dispute between Anil-led Reliance Natural Resources Ltd (RIL) over Gas Supply Master Agreement (GSMA) whereby RIL will be supplying gas for RNRL’s power plants.

Lawyers of both the brothers said they will seek instruction on the court’s suggestion and inform about it.

Meanwhile, the Central government told the court that National Thermal Power Corporation has no contract with Reliance Industries, contradicting NTPC’s own stand in its case against RIL.

The statement by the government’s counsel came during arguments in another case, namely the one between Mukesh Ambani-led RIL and Anil Ambani-led RNRL over gas supply agreement.

The government has sought to intervene in this matter. The moment government lawyer, Mr T.S. Doabia made the statement, RNRL lawers were up on their feet, pointing out that the statement almost destroyed NTPC’s case against RIL.

“What happens to your suit against RIL?” asked Mr Mukul Rohatgi, RNRL lawyer. “NTPC has been arguing all along that it has a concluded contract with RIL. With this statement, NTPC has no case at all,” he said.

Senior lawyer, Mr Ram Jethmalani, also appering for RNRL, said the government cannot say one thing in a case and something else in another. “This shows your government is corrupt,” said Mr Jethmalani.

However, Mr Doabia maintained that “My instruction are that NTPC dose not have a concluded contract with RIL”.

We can achieve this goal only if we all strive in unison,” he said while presiding over a meeting organised by the TNCC here on Wednesday I connection with the Rajiv Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

Referring to criticism by certain political parties that his party could not become a strong force, Mr Thangkabalu said the Congress workers should prove the critics wroug. “Let’s live up to the aspirations of Rajiv Gandhi,” he urged.

The Congress, union ministers were conspicous by their absence at the meeting, which was attended, in large numbers by party cadres. AICC general secretary incharge of Tamil Nadu affairs K.P. Krishnamurthy said the nation would disintegraet if the BJP was allowed to come to power.

DMK ‘no’ to economic quotas

The ruling DMK has opposed the quota for economically backward classes who are not covered in the existing reservation policy, in education and employment opportunities while most other states have favoured the proposal.

“The government does not want reservation on the basis of economic backwardness in education and employment opporunities,” Major General S.R. Sinho, chairman of National Commission for Economic Backward Classes told reporters after holding a public hearing at the Chennai district collectorate on Wednesday.

“Out of the 12 states we have visited, all are in favour of reservation as well as welfare measures for the economically backward. Except for the Kerala, which is only in favour of welfafe measures,” the chairman said. He also added that the commission would also suggest the necessary constitutional legal and administrative modalities, which were required to implement the recommendation.

Mr Sinho said that the commission would visit all the states and submit its recommendation to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on July 2009. “The commission will suggest criteria for identification for economically backward classes and quantum of reservation for such classes ont eh basis of their economic backwardness,” he added.

However, N. Vasudevan, secretary of BC, MBC and Minority welfare department said that the Tamil Nadu government opposed the reservation as it is not constitutionally validated. “The constitution says that reservation benefits should be provided only on the basis of social and economical backwardness,” he added.

More rain likely in city

The capital and suburbs, which received torrential rain on Tuesday are likely to receive more rain in the evenings or night in the next 24 to 48 hours due to the influence of a trough of low-pressure in the Bay of Bengal, asper weather forecast.

The city recorded 10 cm rainfall during the last 24 hours ending 8.30 a.m on Wednesday, according to Me officials.

The low-pressure trough, which extended from coastal Andhra Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu has intensified further and would cause more rains in Puducherry, they said.

Meawhile, the civic authorities swung into action and cleared about 25 trees that got uprooted due to torrentail rain in the city on Tuesday. Informing that roads have been cleared of the uprooted trees, Chennai Mayor M.Subramanian said the sudden rain accompanied by gales on Tuesday had caused the trees to fall in the roads.

Sohail Willing to play second fiddle to brothers

Sohail Khan says he loves experimenting for his brothers Salman and Arbaaz, and adds that he doesn’t crave to be recognised as an actor outside his home turf. “With our production house doing well, as an actor Idon’t have to be desperate. I can do solo-hero films. But I’d rather be part of bigger projects will make it smoothly,” says Sohail. The actor stepped in at the 11th hour in the salman starrer God Tussi Great Ho after Yash Tonk suddenly opted out-only because Salman requested him to come on board. “Yash is a friend… we did Fight Club together. It was an awkward situation for him He called me up and requested me to get into his shoes. Since it was Salmanbhai’s film I didn’t think twice,” Sohail explained.
It can’t be a coincidence. All of Sohail’s acting assignaments in the past three years, from Maine Pyar Kyun Kiya to Salman-EIshq to God Tussi Great Ho, Heroes and Main Aur Mrs.Khanna are in his big brother’s company.
And if it isan’t Salman, then it’s Arbaaz, like in the recently released Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na and now in the forthcoming Kissan they play brother once again. Sohail had to speak a lot of Punjabi for Kissan. “It’s my first raw-and-real film. Arbaaz and I play hardcore farmers in dhotis. It’s the most authentic production we’ve ever done. It’s about the new generation of farmers not valuing their land. Jackie Shroff plays our father. We shot in Chandigarh for 40 days at a stretch Then I left for Melbourne for Main Aur Mrs. Khanna… Quite a culture shock! Now we go into Partner 2 where Idon’t have an acting part.”
Partner 2 will, of course, have Govinda and Salman . But the leading ladies Katrina Kaif and Lara Dutta will change. “It’s basically a brand.” Sohail is producing Partner 2 as well as a remake of Amar Akbar Anthony, in which he plays Rishi Kapoor’s part.
“I’m very happy with the actin wirk that I do. Acting is only a part of my life. I want to produce, give time to my wife and son and spend time with my friend. I want to do quality work.” No plans of the Khan brothers turning into a self-contained filmempire? “No, we’ll continue to freelance as actors,” said Sohail. “And we’ll continue to introduce new talent like Prem Soni, who’s directing Main Aur Mrs. Khanna for us. My hands are full till 2010. And I’m a producer first, an actor later.”

Asif fails ‘B’ sample test too

Karachi, Aug.19: Mohammad Asif on Tuesday found himself in deep trouble as the dope test of his ‘B’ sample has also tested positive for a contraband substance, leaving the Pakistan pacer facing the possibility of being banned for two years. “I can only confirm the B sample test has come positive but the results of both tests are different which is strange to us,” Asif’s lawyer Shahid Karim said from Geneva. Karim said that the ‘B’ test, which was conducted on Monday, had found 5.4 milligrams of nandraolone in Asif’s urine sample. Asif had asked for a ‘B’ sample test after he had tested positive for 6.2 mg of nandrolone during the inaugural Indian Premier League, During which he played for Delhi Daredevils.
The 25 year old is already suspended from all forms of cricket by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the first test turned out to be positive. But Asif said that he was also surprised at the different test results and was thinking about appealing to the authorities. I hope Jade learns first hand about our culture and how wonderful our people are.”

Shamita’s passion for fashion

Did you know that Shamita Shetty has acquired designing? Before getting into films, the actress planned to pursue a career as a fashion designer. She had even completed a degree course in fashion designing at Mumbai’s SNDT College and was student the college faculty was proud of.
A classmate revealed, “Shamita used to give her 100 per cent to the projects she undertook as a fashion designer. She was brilliant at mixing and matching fabrics and would have definitely been an asset to the fashion world.” Fabrics of varied hues, printed designs and playing with ideas and giving it a creative expression was something Shamita always felt passionately about. But fate had something else in store for her. A film offer from the industry’s best, Yash Raj Films, was too tempting to turn down. When asked whether she gives tips on fashion to sister Shilpa, Sharmita laughs and says “On the contrary, Shilpa is my fashion designer. She gives me tips on how to dress up. When I am leaving the house, I am under scrutiny from head to toe. She sees to it that I dress up neatly and wear the right accessories. My fashion designing was only on paper.”

Jatin Shah joins Kuch Is Tara

Jatin Shah, better known as Adi of Kahani, has been out of the show for the past five months, because the second generation has been kept out of the current plot. So it was Kabhi Kabhi Pyaar Kabhi Kabhi Yaar that kept him busy for some time. Now that he has been eliminated from the dance show, Jatin has joined Kuch is Tara as Ranbir’s friend.
“I am playing a doctor who Ranbir calls from London to diagnose Kanya/Natasha’s split personality disorder. I can’t talk much about the role but my character has a connection with Natasha,” says Jatin who is also looking forward to his entry in Kasturi. “It is tentative and I might join the show in some time,” he says.
He has also been told that he might be back in Kahani. So after sitting idle for a few months, Jatin is all set to get busy now.

I am not out of Tamil television industry

Meera Vasudevan, who is currently enjoying her second innings in films, insists that she is not moving out of telly. The pretty actress is currently hosting Attam Pattam, a game show on Kalaignar TV. “I have been away from film industry for personal reasons and have accepted a few offers in the recent months. I enjoy hosting Attam Pattam and looking for interesting scripts to be a part of television,” she says.
After walking out of a bad marriage, Meera is looking at life from a different perspective. “I feel that a girl should fulfill all her dreams before marriage. However, I am determined to get back my lost glory both in telly and films,” she says. The actress is acurrently acting in films like Kathi Kappal in which she plays the role of a girl, who wants to take revenge against those who killed her husband and the role of a district collector in Neeye. The actress is being flooded with offers from the Malayalam and Hindi film industry.
“Tamil will always be my first love. Though I was born and brought up in Mumbai and have acted in commercials, I want to prove myself in the Tamil entertainment industry. In the coming days, you will see more from me,” says the talented actress.

Ranbir’s passion for bike irks Neetu

Like John Abraham, Ranbir Kapoor too is passionate about fast cars and bikes. He has a group of biker buddies and this gang of guys loves to go out for some dhoom on the streets of suburban Mumbai, whenever the actor is in town.
Interestingly, Deepika too is a part of the all boys club and wants to be more than a pillion rider in the near future. But it’s mom Neetu Kapoor who is not happy with her son’s adventurous activities and has told him in no uncertain terms to stop playing with fire and go easy.
When Ranbir expressed his desire to buy the latest fast paced super bike when in the US, his mom thumbed down the idea saying there was no place in her house for another bike.
She even goaded the usually indulgent father Rishi Kapoor to support her and he too is now against Ranbir’s passion for bikes. Ranbir has since been sulking with his folks about the issue.

Deepika, a favourite of the Chopra camp

Though Deepika Padukone lost out on Aditya chopr’s directorial comeback Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi with SRK to another newcomer Anushka Sharma, it hasn’t stopped her from keeping her good offices with the director intact. She’s always been in touch with the production head honcho with whom she has finished the soon to release Bachna Ae Haseeno.
Looks like all that PR has borne fruit, as according to inside, Deepika is the new favorite of Chopras, who will soon be signing her for another project. In fact, even though it’s for a short span of time, she will share screen space with SRK once again in Adi’s film, where she is dong a cameo. She was recently spotted at the Yash Raj office working out details for the same, and left the office with promises to keep for the future. If anyone knows how to be at the right place at the right time, it’s Deepike.

Katrina has the last laugh

The sensuous actress is on a high after replacing Aishwariya Rai as the brand ambassador of Nakshatra diamonds
Katrina Kaif is on cloud nine. She has been chosen to be the brand ambassador for Nakshtra diamonds, replacing Aishwarya Rai. This has of course not gone down well with the Bachchans, with Abhishek jumping to wife’s rescue saying she refused the contract, hence Katrina bagged it. The beautiful actress however remains unfazed. “People love creating controversies. All I can say is that right now I am the brand ambassador for Nakshatra diamonds. The company feels I am the right person to endorse their product,” she says.
Katrina feels there is no need to feel insecure about competition. “There is no competition in films or ads. There’s room for everyone. Some 20 big movies are made every year. And if I get four to five of them, I am happy,” she says.
But what about her ouster from shah Rukh Khan’s Temptations tour? The actress clarifies, “The Moranis (the organizers of the show) have themselves said that if the dates work out, we will do it. I love doing stage shows but right now I will be leaving for the US for a month long schedule for a Yash Raj movie,” says Katrina.

‘It’s cool and sexy to play a deity’

Jaya Bhattacharya now invokes divine blessings to lay off that “garrulous shrew with garish makeup” stance from her profile. “Saas-bahu soaps tend to make you feel stagnant and suffocating at some point of time,” she confides.
So, getting herself cast into Kali’s mould in Jai Maa Durga was a big relief indeed. Currently being aired at 7 pm every Saturday on star Plus, this weekend serial is already drawing in high TRPs.
Jaya in her complete Kali look never showed signs of buckling under pressure whatsoever. The actress has always paraded her perfect 10 professionalism. “Well, dong the fighting sequences with the asuras (demons) wasn’t an easy feat for me. And though I had a stunt master to continuously assist me in the action scenes, I just once hurt myself only to rebound after nursing the injuries for a couple of days,” she reveals.
Incidentally, this is not her maiden attempt at a mythological role on the tube. Earlier, Jaya portrayed the goddess Laxmi in a serial tilted Jai Hanuman. “One path-breaking genre comes in and the rest follow suit. The bottom line is to keep flowing with the tide and ensure a good viewer ship on the whole,” she says.
Is Jaya a pious lady? To this the high-pitches voice retorts with a whine, “Not at all. I’m not a God-fearing person. I’ve an uncanny fondness for celestial denizens like Durga, Kali and shiva, since theyare inspiring to me.
This time I was offered to play Kali and I thought of sticking to that. Can you handle this – Its cool and sexy to personify a divine avatar.”

Numerology rules Bollywood

Trust singer-turned actor Himesh Reshammiya to take things to unheard of lengths.

Afilm believer in numerology, his latest film is called A Love Issshtory Really. And another is called Karzzzz.

An extra ‘k’ here, an extra’z’ there. This is how many Bollywood titles now read. From Heyy Babyy to Singh is Kinng, using additional letters has become routine, thanks to increasing influence of numerology.

It began as an obsession with ‘k’ only to spread among producers and actors alike.

Directors and producers are no more hesitating to consult professional numerologists before finalising trhe name of their films.

“Many people from the film industry consult us. Many actors, producers and directors are our regular clients,” says Swatta Jhumani, a Punebased numerologist. “Whatever recognition we have today is because of our Bollywood clients.”

Rakesh Roshan’s brush with numerology began with Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai, where two extra ‘a’s wrer added on the recommendation of the Jhumani family.

The film went on to become one of the big-gest hits of all time.

Airline travel agents on 1-day strile tomorrow

A section of travel agents in the country have decided to go on a one-day strike on August 14 in prortest against the decision of several airlines to do away with paying them commissions in return for travel bookings. Airline officials have confirmed the move. State-owned unified carrier Air India, leading private carrier Jet Airways and private airline Kingfisher Airlines are among the airline that have decided to go in for a “zero commission” policy for travel agents. Air India and Kingfisher Airlines will implement this policy from November 1 inwards.

Air India, for instance, currently pays a commission of five per cent to their registered travel agensts for bookings but the payment of commision will cease from November 1 onwards

Airlines have decided to implement the new policy in the wake of heavy losses incurred on account of high aviation turbine fuel prices.

“It seems everybody has been making money except airlines. Why should travel agents be paid for doing nothing? If an airline first class ticket on a long-haul route is Rs 4 lakhs, why should an agent be paid Rs 20,000 for doing virtually nothing?” air lines asked.

It was none other than Govinda! A unit source reveals, “The entire unit of Do Knot Disturb including Govinda. Sushmita, Lara Dutta and Ritesh Deshmukh were shooting Delhi. Chiranjeevi will never be CM: Astrologer

Aug.10: Astrologers have predicted that actor Chiranjeevi will never be the chief minister.
They said that the actor, who was born on August 22 at 10.05 am, is currently going through Kalayogam, a time when Shani casts his evil times which began for the actor on July 17, 2007 will continue till November 2, 2014.
They further said Chiranjeevi was born during Kalasarpa time. People born during this time should not change their profession if they want to be successful. They warned that he will face the worst phase in his life from December 9, 2008 to March 4, 2009 as Mars, Jupiter and Rahu fall in makara rasi. That is not compatible to his horoscope.

“He is not going to succeed in politics and can never become the chief minister as his horoscope is headed towards evil times. He is under Kalayogam,” said Mr Srinivasa Gargeya, a senior astrologer. Chiranjeevi’s horoscope does not show any sign of him making it to the top or even becoming a king maker, said Mr Ghorasa Veerabhadrchryulu, head of the department of astrology in Telugu University. “He may win a few seats but will not become the chief minister,” Veerabhadracharyulu said. Astrologers said that the actor’s plans to perform Chandi Yagam to nullify the effect of Shani will not help.

“His horoscope is in such a critical time that no yagam can nullify the Shani effect. The effect will continue for another six years. Vested interests are misleading him,” said Krishna Santosh Sastri, another astrologer. Astrologers also foresee the first ever-hung Assembly in the state after the next elections.

Disappointed by Fab four

India would be disappointed by their effort on the first day of the final test. An important toss was won, the start was fabulous and then the story of this tour repeated itself. The Fab Four of India’s middle order have one more innings to redeem themselves But at this stage it must be said the Sri Lankan spinners have tied them in knots. The tentativeness was there for all to see.

Only, it was not spinners but a rookie medium fast bowler who added to their misery today. Dammika prasad isn’t genuinely quick but he moves the ball off the seam at decent pace and has a bustling run-up to the crease. He claimed India’s two Ten Thou sanders, Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar, with deliveries, which moved in sharply, both in the air and off the wicket. That he also accounted for his team’s bogeyman Virender Sehwag.

No psycho killer, says Cop

Chennai police commissinor R. Sekar on Thursday said that there was no psycho killer in the city. “Three murders in which victims were burnt were commited by a gang of men for petty gain. All other deaths were either accidents for,” he claimed at a press conference.

With the police claiming the breakthrough in the serial murders, residents of Vadapalani and Ashok Nagar can now feel relaxed and heave a sign of relief.

The commissioner noted that there were no seven or right serial killings by a psycho. “We have arrested two normal men, part of a bigger gang, for killing at least two persons – one unidentified man in Kumaran Nagar on july 14 and a watchman named Basha in Ashok nagar on July 16. The murder of another watchman on July 8 also seems to the handiwork of the same gang,” the police said.

The arrested two allegedly admitted that they along with their gang members had killed the people for money to buy drugs and liquor. The other gang members were yet to be nabbed. R Sekar told reporters. The arrested duo Subramani and Nagarajan was part of a bigger group of about eight or nine persons, who ‘would be nabbed soon.

According to the police they had already solved the first two cases of mysterious killings (that took place in the last week of june) by arresting a person identified as Ekambaram who was stated to be mentally unstable. But mysterious killings continued even after the arrest. Because the police arrested a mentally instable person for the first two killing media started terming the subsequent murders as psycho killing’.

The commissioner took a dig at the media and dismissed its portrayal of the murders, as those committed by a ‘psycho’ killer. Skar said there was no psycho angle as feared by people and all deaths happened due to different reasons.

A spate of murders had rocked Vadapalani and nearby areas from last week of June to mid-July, leading to speculation that a ‘psycho’ killer was on the prowl. The victims were found dead under mysterious circumstances with their head smashed with a stone or their body burnt.

7 Psychos Prowl City: Cops

it's not just one psycho killer but a gang of seven. if the chennai police is to be believed. a little mob of rowdies in the city have 'graduated' as murderers after beginning as late night muggers of inebriated men for petty gains that sometimes yielded as little a couple of hundred ruppes.
with barely a day to go before the agitation AIADMK leader Ms jayalithaa for the 'inability of the goverment to protect people from the psycho killer' , the chennai police to have nabbed two members of a gang of seven allegedly responsible for the gruesome killing of at least two of the eight 'psycho murders' during the last six weeks.
'karuppu' naagu [26] and rajesh [23] were picked up by night patrol police at saidapet late week. the two were moving about in a supicious manner. they were walking along the road and were visibly alarmed at sighting the patrol vehicle, a senior officer said, requesting anonymity. city police commissioner R.sekar has called for a press conference on thursday presumably to release the 'official' account of the cracking of the psycho case.

Always competition between Kamal and Rajini

Seeing the title, you can't belive right? Yes. But its true. Always there is a healthy competition between superstar and universal hero.

For instance, Rajinikanth started a big project Sivaji and Kamal started a biggest project Dasavatharam. Though, both the movies were not released simulataneously, both were of high budget and faced indirect competition.

Now Rajinikanth has officially announced his next movie ROBOT with the same team of Sivaji. Again this is a movie with more budget than sivaji. Ayangaran International produces the movie.

To compete with Robot, Kamal has announced officially his next biggest project Marmayogi, which will be directed by himself.

AR Rahman composes the music for both the big movies.

Both the movies carry high expectation, and we need to wait to know who wins the race?

Is kuselan hit or failure?

Superstar Rajinikanth's Kuselan movie was released all over the world on 1 August 2008. The very first day, the show was running to packed houses. Had a very good opening. But from second day onwards, the theatres began to loose the crowd.

What is the reason?

Is it because, the movie is not good?
Is it because, superstar appears less in the movie?
Is it because, superstar has sent a apology letter to Karnataka?

The reason can be all three for the movie to loose its strength. Personally i feel, only the climax of the movie is worth watching and nothing much to rave about the movie on the whole. Superstar has done a commendable job in the climax. Comedies are just a shit. Vadivelu failed to evoke laughter and does the same Santhanam. GV Prakash's music is also just average.
Only pasupathy has excelled in the movie/

Overall, kuselan is just an average movie, which can be watched only for the climax.

USD gained strength today

ADP employment report has come positive, which lead the USD to go more stronger. Even crude oil price went down, which is another support for USD to gain strength.

USD/JPY and USD/CHF has increased a lot. Its the right time now to go for a short position for both the pairs.

After NFP (Non Farm Payroll) changes, which is to be released on 1 Aug 2008, chances are there fore USD to loose strength.

Slash in Crude Oil Price increases the strength of USD

Well you guyz might have made enough profit with any currency that is paired with USD in Forex Market. For instance, yesterday USD/CHF has hiked around 130 pips and EUR/USD and GBP/USD came down around 150 pips.

If you have played well, you might have made 150 pips from each currency.

Alright, what do you think the reason would be for this USD hike? One is the postivie news about US. The other is the slash down of Crude oil. Few days back the cost of crude oil was around 140 USD per barrel. And now the cost of crude oil is around 121 USD per barrel. Its hovering around the area 121 and 122 USD.

So chances are there for crude oil to be increased upto 125USD per barrel today. And chances are there for USD also to weaken.

Letz wait and watch....

AR Rahman composes for Karunanidhi?

After the success of Uliyiny Osai penned by CM Karunanidhi, he is all set to come up with another period film. Sources say prashanth will be the lead in the movie and he plays dual role.

CM Karunanidhi, being impressed on AR Rahman's work on Jodha Akbar, Lagaan, etc., he personally invited ar rahman to his residence and requested him to compose music for his next period film.

AR Rahman has agreed the offer and official announcement would be published shortly. Its nice to hear that AR Rahman has accepted this offer, being in a busy schedule.

Which music director is gonna win?

In tamil cinema four major music directors AR Rahman, Harris Jeyaraj, Yuvan Shankar Raja and Yuvan Shankar Raja have come with four different music albums Sakkarakatti, Sathyam, Saroja and Kuselan simultaneously.
All the songs from all the albums are rocking. This is the first time all four have come together. There is a healthy competition among all the four music legends. Letz see whatz gonna happen and who is gonna win in nex few days after the movie releases.
My personal rating for all the albums:
Dhaam Dhoom - 9/10
Sakkarakatti - 8.8/10
Saroja - 8/10
Sathyam - 7/10
Kuselan - 6/10
I feel sathyam songs are stale except ada gada rap number and kuselan songs are not that much suitable for rajinikanth.
I am sorry if my opinion hurts anyone...
