6 flyovers to be ready by 2009

Aug.10: As many as six flyovers in south and north Chennai would be thrown open for public use by December 2009, said local administration minister M.K. Stalin on Sunday. Speaking to reporters after inspecting the completed road over bridge at Usman Road in T.Nager, scheduled for inauguration on Thursday by chief minister M. Karunanidhi, he said that the G N Chetty road flyower in T.Nager would be inaugurated by the end of this year. Similarly bridges at Alandur road in Saidapet and Maniackara Chattiram railway level crossing in north Chennai would be completed by March 2009. And by September 2009, the subway work at Rangarajapuram level crossing would over, he promised.

Turning to traffic improvement measures in the city. Mr Stalin reiterated that the city, Mr Stalin reiterated that the abandoned Perambur bridge works would be restarted at a revised estimate of Rs 45 crore and would be completed by the end of next year. The bridge works at Jones road in Saidapet, Cockrain Basin Cenetoph road and Turnbulls – Cenetoph road were also progressing , he added.

According to corporation sources, the Usman road flyover constructed at a cost of Rs 19.80 crore would ease traffic congestion in Mambalam, T.Nager and Kodambakkam. The bridge measuring 781 metres and breadth was started in September 2007. Chennai mayor M.subramanian, corporation commissioner Rajesh Lakhoni and joint commissioner (work) Ashish Chatterjee Were also present.
