Aamir gets emotional

Bollywood Star Aamir Khan broke down on the stage after receving the 11th Gollapudi Srinivas Memorial National Award for best director for his film Taare Zameen Par at an event organized at Kamaraj Arangam on Tuesday evening. “I wish my mother was alive to see this film. She would have been the first person on this earth to be happy,” said Aamir Khan, even as his eyes filled with tears. Aamir will be donating the prize money of Rs 1.5 lakh to the M G R Film Institute, Taramani to promote dedicated and talented young filmmakers. A short film The Second Innings made by ace cinematographer Rajiv Menon was also screened in memory of Gollapudi Srinivas, in whose name the prestigious award has been instituted. Famous ghazal singer Jagjit Singh performed at the function. Also present were actor Anupam Kher who spoke on the occasion about Aamir, director Vidhu Vinod Chopra and screenwriter Prasoon Joshi.
