The city civil court on Friday directed actor Shahrukh Khan and producer director of the movie Om Shanty Om , Farah Khan to delete the scene ridiculing yesteryer veteran actor Manoj Kumar before telecasting the movie on Sony Entertainment Television on August 10.
Kumar had filed a plea in the court asking for a stay on the telecast of the film Om Shanti Om on television. Soon after the film was released in 2007, Kumar had objected to the manner in which he had been spoofed at in the film.
Manoj Kumar’s lawyer Ashok Sarogi said that Shah Rukh and Kumar had entered into a written agreement that the scene would be deleted. Shah Rukh Khan’s lawyer argued that the scene was only a joke and the actor or the director of the movie has committed no offence of defamation.
The court while accepting Kumar’s application directed Shah Rukh and Farah Khan to deleted the scene and telecast the movie. Kumar’s lawyer Sarogi said that they would file a defamation case claiming a rupee 1 from Shah Rukh owned Red Chillies Productions and its director Gauri Khan for not keeping with their promise of deleting the scene before its release.
Kumar has told the court that soon after he had objected to the scenes in the movie Bollywood bigwig Yash Chopra has tendered an apology to film and assured him that the offensive portions will be removed from the print. Earlier, Chopra had acted as a mediator between the director Farha Khan and Kumar when the row erupted. Manoj Kumar has sought a staying that it would greatly harm his reputation.
He has argued that these days more people watch movies at home on a television than they do in a theatre.
Besides, Kumar also said that Chopra had promised him that the scenes he had found offensive would be removed from VCDs and newcomer Deepika padukone as its lead pair.
